You heard it here first, folks: standing room only!
So… show number seven and one that I’ve been really looking forward to. The show’s 6.30pm start time means it sits at a great time for the Friday evening crowd.
I anticipated there being a big crowd tonight… a combination of the start time and also the interchangeable weather should draw people indoors.
I was out flyering the Mile beforehand – my patter is getting much better, even sharing jokes with the passers by! I was then ably assisted for the final fifteen minutes by my partner, his bestie and his work colleague… it seems that teamwork paid off…
As I wandered down to the venue I was delighted to see it was busy… when I walked into the room I could see it was more than busy: it was standing room only!!! We had to bring in extra chairs and even then five people had to stand!
And the audience? Superb! Everyone in the room was clearly up for a night of comedy and I was more than happy to deliver them just that! The lovely mother and daughter from India (not so impressive now, eh, Portsmouth and Sheffield!), even a couple of Poles (okay, they came with me!!!)… and a really good dose of locals!
Despite having performed stand up for years, I think tonight’s show is right up there with my best ever (it might even be the best). It just seems to be so easy when you have a big audience in front of you, especially one who has turned up looking to be entertained!
It’s 23.25 when I’m writing this and the smile still hasn’t disappeared from my face! Even after all these years, comedy is still the best drug I know.
Day eight tomorrow – more of the same, [pretty] please!
