Sunday, Bloody Sunday

Sooooo… day two of this hectic Fringe run!

A much quieter day in the city, which was evident by the number of people on the Mile.  Ahhh, there’s nothing better than being told “look at the state of that!?” by a big fat bird in reaction to my flyer.  I really don’t think you’re in any position to talk, hen!

A quieter day than on Saturday but we still managed a decent audience.  The room was absolutely roasting though – the fan at the back was proving to be about as much use as an ashtray on a motorcycle…

Great audience, lovely couple from Waaaakefield, Yorkshire (we get all the glamorous locations in this show!).  A handsome guy from Barcelona who seemed to enjoy himself!  Geordies – practically Scottish anyway… A single local, sporting a fabulous rainbow headband!  And a couple of Hungarians who came in last and made sure they bolted before the bucket collection (uh hu, I noticed guys, I noticed).

The show itself was fun… the heat was playing havoc with my memory though (I actually forgot to do a couple of jokes – doh!).  Well done to all of the audience for making it through to the end – it was  a slog but we all got there!

standI had to rush off after the show to make it through to Glasgow where I was playing at Michael Redmond’s Pick of the Fringe.  This was one of those nights where the heat had clearly taken everything out of me – I was running on empty…  And to add to that, an audience who just didn’t get me at all… yeah, it was just one of those nights!!

In hindsight, maybe I should have been less deadpan but then would that really have been a fair reflection of the ‘Heroic Failure’ show?

(edit: I’ve actually listened back to the show, I wasn’t  actually as bad as I thought but my lack of energy was far too obvious.  Even after all these years of comedy, I’m still learning).

Still, no point in dwelling on things in the past, time for bed and then I go again for day three…

…aaaaaaand so it begins!

A great start to the Fringe on Saturday. Or Friday night, depending on how you look at it!

relaxIt all started for me at 01.00 when I was performing at Sian Davies’ wonderful ‘ComedyQueers’ night over at the Counting House.  The room was absolutely packed – the first time I’ve ever had to climb over audience members to make it on to the stage!  Can you imagine that!?

It was a great audience, all the right side of pished, who offered big laughs to each of the five acts performing.  A top night and one I’d happily play again at the drop of a hat!

Saturday evening we began my solo show…. Flyering on the Mile beforehand was both a challenge and also fun!  I was ably-assisted by my life partner in crime (you know, the dirty immigrant I live/love with!)… He’s clearly much better at this flyering malarky than I!

passAnd what of the show?  Well, I had a lovely full room, filled with people who were all up for a laugh.  A lovely couple of Americans who voted neither Trump nor Clinton based on what they said (surely they’re part of the problem then!!!)!  We had the Scousers now living in Wigan (talk about downgrading in life!)… The fabulously classy lassie from the not so classy Nottingham (she really did add a bit of glamour to the room)… Debbie from Scunthorpe (not to be confused with the Debbie in my show from Fatbusters)…  Oh and the Brexit voter on the front row – even she hadn’t known why she voted for it!!

As far as a Fringe debut goes, I don’t think it could have got much better than this!

Time for a nap before day two can get going…
